Re: Designate the Fire Chief as Emergency Management Director
Background:
While working on the emergency operations plan in BoldPlanning I have determined that the city
should have one person designated as their emergency management director. During the initial
work on the EOP plan Neil said to assign it to the fire chief, but there is nothing that I know of
that has made that official.
Definition;
Emergency management directors prepare plans and procedures for responding to natural
disasters and other emergencies. They also help lead the response during and after emergencies,
often in coordination with public safety officials, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and
government agencies
Issue:
Who should the city designate as their Emergency Management Director?
Proposal Details:
Designate the Scandia Fire Chief as the official Emergency Management Director for the city of
Scandia.
Fiscal Impact:
There is no additional expense to designate the Fire Chief as emergency management director.
Currently the fire chief is acting as emergency management director.
Options:
(1) Designate the Scandia Fire Chief as the city Emergency Management Director
(2) Designate another staff member as the Emergency Management Director
(3) Do nothing
Recommendation:
Option (1).
