Re: Summer 2020 Recreation Programs
Background:
The new “Art in Action” program offered last year was quite a success with 16 participants.
Issue:
What summer recreation programs should be offered?
Proposal Details:
Staff contacted Brooke Smith, the Arts Education Director at St. Croix Festival Theatre. The
theatre would like to offer the Art in Action summer arts camp again this summer. The camp
would run the week of August 10 through August 14 at the Community Center. The week-long
camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon. All registrations would go directly through Festival Theatre.
Program details would be included in the City spring newsletter that will be sent to Scandia
residents the first week of April. In addition, all programs would be promoted on the City’s
website and Facebook page.
Options:
1. Approve offering the Art in Action summer arts camp.
2. Do not approve offering the Art in Action summer arts camp.
Fiscal Impact:
None. Registration fee of $60 per participant goes directly to Festival Theatre.
Recommendation:
At the March 2, 2020 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Committee recommended we offer
the Art in Action program and pursue other programs
