6.b2 PRC Summer Recreation Programs1 SCANDIA Staff Report Date of Meeting: April 21, 2020 To: City Council From: Brenda "Bee" Stignani, Office Assistant Re: Summer 2020 Recreation Programs Background: The new "Art in Action" program offered last year was quite a success with 16 participants. The Parks & Recreation Committee recommends continuing a relation with St. Croix Festival Theatre by offering two Art In Action camps this summer. Proposal Details: Staff contacted Brooke Smith, the Arts Education Director at St. Croix Festival Theatre. The theatre would like to offer two Art in Action summer arts camp again this summer. The week- long camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon and would be scheduled based on the availability of the Community Center. All registrations would go directly through Festival Theatre. Programs would be promoted on the City's website and Facebook page. Options: 1. Approve offering two Art in Action summer arts camps. 2. Do not approve offering the Art in Action summer arts camps. Fiscal Impact: None. Registration fee of $60 per participant goes directly to Festival Theatre. Recommendation: The Parks and Recreation Committee recommended offering two Art in Action programs in 2020. The camps would be taught in the Community Center by the St. Croix Festival Theatre staff. The programs would be contingent on any current recommendations by the Washington County or State of Minnesota Public Health departments limiting the gathering of people in public spaces.
