Re: City Administrator Recruitment Proposals
Background:
On June 11th the City Council received my resignation with an effective date of November 6,
2015. At the June meeting, the Council directed staff to solicit proposals from recruitment firms
to help get a new administrator hired.
Issue:
Who should the Council hire for the recruitment of the next City Administrator?
Proposal Details:
Staff contacted three firms to ask for proposals. Two firms responded by the July 14th deadline.
In your packet are the proposals from David Drown and Associations and Waters and Company
(formally Springsted).
Both proposals include background information on the firm and the personnel that would be
involved in the process, a proposed timeline and details of tasks, references and fee. Processes
are similar and the Council can discuss changes at their first meeting with the recruiter. Both
firms have a new administrator starting about mid-December. It is very common for
administrators to be required to give a 30 or 45 day notice to their current employer so this adds
a couple weeks when compared to recruitments for other positions.
Fiscal Impact:
David Drown -$14,000
Waters and Company -$12,800
Options:
1) Hire David Drown and Associates for Administrator recruitment
2) Hire Waters and Company for Administrator recruitment
3) Seek additional proposals
