Public Works Staff Report — May 2020
Roads and Right — of — way
Roads:
Staff patched the larger potholes in the city and are now working on the thinner potholes.
Undermining holes are showing up along roads. They are being patched when noticed or
PW is notified. The patching trailer has a heating issue which will need to be addressed
after next week. PW staff will be down to a two -person crew and one season crew from
6-18-20 through July 6t" due to vacations. We have done some road shouldering and will
do more as time, weather, and personnel allows.
Two more after hour reports of trees down. One was moved off to the side by the sheriff
and one by PW staff. A third tree was found in the next morning along Mayberry and was
removed. One street sign needed repair due to tree damage on a fourth fallen tree that
week.
Staff has received quotes from contractors to perform some road patching for the City to
address roads that are failing and over three years out for road improvement projects.
The 2020 road improvement project is complete. There is a minor check list of matters to
address along the construction area. The list mainly includes picking up of some extra
asphalt debris and pulling shouldering back into place.
Dust control for the gravel roads was completed. All roads were graded prior to
application. The process went well. The roads will be monitored and citizen feedback
noted.
Sewer — Water:
Bliss /AE 201 system:
We had a short power outage at the Bliss drain field which impacted the controller for lift
station #3. The situation has been addressed and the system is running as it should.
Uptown sewer:
Staff met with MN Rural Water and discussed the smoke process and where we would
start the process. Staff was provided with subject matter to release to the public and
notice examples.
Parks:
Lilleskogen:
Prairie Restorations did a prescribed burn on the property. They will now continue with
the rest of the program to remove the invasive plant species and establish native
species.
Wind in the Pines: (WIP)
Spray paint graffiti on the park sign was discovered and was addressed at that time. All
the paint came off.
Other:
- Staff has the permit to work in the Co. Rd. ROW to begin the pad installation
and locates for excavation are submitted.
- PW has the part time seasonal staff person on board — Christina Mazzucco
- Flower baskets were hung. Christina is getting into the routine of watering.
Next year Staff proposes the flowers are delivered and we unload and hang
right away so there is less damage to the baskets.
