2. 4-13-15 EDA MinutesThe Scandia Economic Development Authority met in the Board Room at the Scandia Community Center on Monday, April 13, 2015 beginning at 6:30pm. Commissioners Present: Sally Swanson, Greg Isaacson, Dan Lee and Bruce Swenson. Absent: Bob Hegland. Staff Present: Kristina Handt. The meeting was called to order at 6:33pm by Swenson. Motion by Swenson, seconded by Lee to approve the March 23, 2015 minutes. Motion carried. Motion by Lee, seconded by Swenson to approve the agenda. Motion carried. No one was present for the public forum. Pam Arnold and Cal Karl from the Scandia Farmers Market introduced themselves. They provided background information on the market, vendors, customers and sponsors. They will be looking for a new market manager this year. The market opens June 10th at Gammelgarden. Their requests to the EDA include help with market volunteers, financial contribution, and support of the new Green Grocery CSA. Folks can purchase a share for $255 and receive 10lbs of produce each week for the 17 weeks of the market. As an alternative folks can purchase shares $170 which will be donated to the Elim Food Shelf to provide a card to those in need to come to the market each week for 10lbs of product. Handt provided an invite to the Coffee and Conversations event on May 13th. Commissioners took a few copies to use to reach out to Scandia businesses. The event will be Wed, May 13th 8:30-9:30am at Meisters. Motion by Swenson, seconded by Lee to join the Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce as a bronze member. Motion carried. Handt, Swanson and Swenson provided a recap of the planning commission meeting regarding the accessory dwelling unit ordinance. The public hearing was well attended and positive comments were made. Planning Commission will review again in May. Commissioners reviewed the goals for 2015. Items discussed included pursuing changes to the Development Code to change multi family housing from a conditional use to a permitted use, community event signage changes, development of a brochure to promote Scandia, and city entrance signs. Commissioner Reports: Swanson talked about signage at Lilleskogen. She will check with Center City on possible grants from MNDOT. Executive Director Report: Handt will be attending the Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast tomorrow. The next meeting will be Monday, May 11, 2015 at 6:30pm. Agenda items to include discussion of the brochure, Ivan Loesch presentation, finalize preparations for Coffee and Conversations. Motion by Swenson, seconded by Isaacson to adjourn at 8:03pm.
