Absent: Kirsten Libby.
Staff in attendance: Office Assistant Bee Stignani, Mayor Christine Maefsky and City
Administrator Ken Cammilleri
Call to Order — Committee Chair Mitchell called the meeting to order at 9:09am.
Approval of the Agenda — Motion by Porubcansky, seconded by Mitchell, to approve the agenda.
Motion carried.
Approval of the June 6, 2020 Meeting Minutes — Motion by Porubcansky, seconded by Moratzka
to approve the minutes. Motion carried.
Settler's Monument — The Committee indicated that it wanted to investigate the possibility of
relocating Scandia's historic monument dedicated to the first Swedish settlers in Minnesota. The
current site of the monument was intended to be visible from the road. However, the road has been
realigned twice throughout history, resulting in the current location being obscured from the road.
The current location is accessible via a private driveway and does not have parking facilities in close
proximity. Cammilleri was instructed to obtain pictures for the committee to evaluate the current
site and location. The committee agreed to continue discussions of this issue on future agendas.
Community Signage Theme and Design — Stignani prepared a staff report with information
from Public Works that was presented to the Parks and Recreation Committee and guidelines they
used in selecting park signage to recommend to City Council. Mayor Maefsky indicated that there
are some large projects being considered by the City Council that may need to be considered by the
Tourism Committee before approving the overall theme and design plan for all City of Scandia
signage. The Committee agreed to table the discussion on signs while Mayor Maefsky solicits input
from the Scandia Heritage Alliance. In the next meeting, the Committee can begin formulating
categories of signs (trail signage, downtown city signage, park signage, etc.) to start formulating a
policy to maintain a cohesive concept throughout the city limits. Motion to table community
wide signage theme and design by Porubcansky, seconded by Moratzka. Motion carried.
Website Design — Stignani prepared a staff report and presented the third version of the design
concept by Revize for the City of Scandia's new website. Revize was able to clarify that we will be
able to add the number of words (currently six) in our task bar at the top of the home page to fit our

needs past this design stage. Revise also clarified that hoovering a cursor over an item on the
calendar will not pull up more information, that feature is not ADA compliant. More text is visible
in the calendar square on the home page, and more detail will only be available by selecting the date
and being directed to an interior page. Members also requested that the Mega Menu be slightly
smaller in order to avoid the eye-catching words "Welcome to" being cut in half. Revize updated
Committee members that the size of the window is dependent on the amount of information listed
and is not a standard size. Committee members also discussed the font of "Scandia" in the Hero
Section, and tones of blues. But in the end, it was decided that no further changes are considered
necessary prior to formally accepting this design concept to move on to the next phase. Stignani
also reminded the Committee that changes can be made at any time at the billable rate of $100/hr,
or for no additional fee in the fourth year of remaining in contract with Revize. Motion to
recommend Design Revision 2 to City Council for acceptance of the new City of Scandia
website by Porubcansky, seconded by Moratzka. Motion carried.
Next Meeting Date — The Committee unanimously agreed to set its next meeting date for
Thursday, August 13`' at 9am.
Adjournment — The Committee adjourned its meeting at 10:37am on the successful motion of
Porubcansky, seconded by Mitchell.
