7/21/202 Fire Department Update
Since the last meeting
- We have purchased 5 iPads that are mounted in the trucks to allow for use of the
county CAD (computer aided dispatch), they also allow for use of our IamResponding
app. The app has preplan information, vehicle tracking, water source information for
Scandia and many of our mutual aid partners & mapping features.
- We have also purchased an online truck inspection program. We currently use a paper
form for our monthly inspection of our equipment & maintenance on the trucks. This
new program will be online and notify a fire officer immediately of any issues found
during the inspection. We will be using the new iPad's for this also.
- We have been working with Hugo Fire on Auto Aid in both of our communities. This will
assist with continuing our ISO rating and may assist in improving our rating in the future.
- Have been working on the fire department budget.
- Have started working on the May Township contract cost estimates
- We have 1 firefighter, Steven Greenhow, that has passed his EMT national registry exam
- We have 2 members that have completed their 1 year probation Steven Greenhow &
Nick Vannelli.
- We are preparing to send last year's new recruits and this year's recruits through the
state firefighter training for FF1, FF & Haz-mat operations this fall.
Staffing
- Patrick McHugh has given his resignation effective June 23rd
- We also have 1 other firefighter that will be leaving the department in the next month
or two.
- This will bring our staffing number down to 21 again. Our ideal staffing level is 30.
COVID-19
- We have returned to a near normal run volume.
- Currently our inventory of PPE is sufficient for our current needs.
- We are working with the city administrator on grant funding and anticipated future
inventory needs.
The city received funds for COVID-19 related supplies and local business funding.
Currently we anticipating allocating $15,000-25,000 to city needed supplies.
- City of Scandia Emergency declaration, we would like to leave the emergency
declaration in place at this time. We feel that it does allow more flexibility under this
pandemic to receive grants and other funding opportunities.
- Per the CDC and information we have been receiving there will be a dramatic increase in
COVID-19 cases this fall/winter as the flu season returns and the second wave of COVID
begins. We are working on increasing our inventory prior to this to avoid the issues we
encountered during the first wave, where we had limited ability to acquire needed PPE.
