5.k) Staff Report-Pay Inc For FFsSCANDIA Staff Report Date of Meeting: August 18, 2015 To: City Council From: Kristina Handt, City Administrators Re: Firefighter Pay Increases for Completion of Certifications and Probationary Period Background: Firefighter compensation was approved in resolution 3-19-13-04. This includes increases for completing the probationary period, certifications and officers. Issue: Should the firefighters receive a pay adjustments for completion of probationary period and certifications? Proposal Details: Travis Loeffler completed his firefighter 1 training earlier this year and should have his pay adjusted to $13/hour effective April 1. This represents the $1/hour increase. In addition, Loeffler should receive the $100 compensation for completing the certification course. John Hagen has completed his one year probationary period, firefighter 1 and EMT certification. This should result in a $3/hour increase to $13/hour effective June 1. In addition, Hagen should receive the $100 compensation for completing the certification courses. Ben McCarthy has completed his one year probationary period and firefighter 1 certification. This should result in a $2/hour increase to $12/hour effective June 1. In addition, McCarthy should receive the $100 compensation for completing the certification course. Fiscal Impact: Last year Loeffler worked 159 hours, Hagen 97 hours and McCarthy 70 hours. If this same trend were to continue the impact would be an additional $935 in expense to the City. The fire department budget provides for this increase. Options: 1) Approve pay increases for Loeffler, Hagen and McCarthy as described above. 2) Approve a different increase for above mentioned firefighters. 3) Do not approve an increase for above mentioned firefighters. Recommendation: Option 1.
