9.i) Staff Report-City Admin Job DescriptionSCANDIA Staff Report Date of Meeting: August 18, 2015 To: City Council From: Kristina Handt, City Administrator Re: City Admin Job Description Background: The City Administrator job description has not been updated since it was first adopted. Now that recruitment for the next City Administrator is underway, it would be a good time to review the description and make any changes. Issue: Should changes be made to the City Admin job description? Proposal Details: Sharon Klumpp provided an updated description following our meeting with her on July 28th. A copy is included in your packet. One item Sharon didn't feel was necessary to change was in regards to the code enforcement duties since the description references zoning code and land use regulations. However, I disagree since this language has been present from the beginning yet the Administrator has had to complete code enforcement activities since the building official position was contracted out in 2011. I would suggest adding language from the building official job description to the city administrator's job description to reflect this shift. Suggested language could be: "Receive, investigate and document complaints regarding property maintenance, construction and other land -use activities." Fiscal Impact: NA Options: 1) Approve the job description as presented 2) Amend the job description and then approve 3) Make no changes to the job description Recommendation: Option 2, add following: "Receive, investigate and document complaints regarding property maintenance, construction and other land -use activities."
