6. Staff Report-196th St Community SepticJ SCAlVDIA Staff RepoVt Date of Meeting: September 2, 2015 To: City Council From: Kristina Handt, City Administrator Re: 196th St Community Septic Background: This week I received a call from a realtor representing a potential buyer for 12087 196th St. and asking if the City would be interested in purchasing some of the land for a community septic system. I also received the follow up email below. "This property has 5.9 acres that runs along the road on the north east side of Big Marine Lake. The buyers have a cabin that is on the lake directly across from this property. They are looking to get their septic system replaced so that they can better utilize their lot. Many of the homes/cabins along the lake are older so most of them would probably benefit from a community septic system, not to mention the benefits that it would bring to the lake's water quality. What qualifications would be needed for this to be an option with the city?" I told her the City didn't have any plans for community septic in that area but that I would bring the issue up to the Council. A map of the area is also included in your packet as a reference. Issue: Should the City pursue a community septic system in the area of 1961h St east of Big Marine Lake? Potential Issues that Would Need to be Addressed if Council wants to pursue: ➢ Soil testing, suitability of drainfield site ➢ Cost/financing of a community system -development and ongoing ➢ System Design and other Requirements ➢ Maintenance Requirements of System and Allocation of Resources ➢ Interest from other property owners in the area
