8/18/202 Fire Department Update
Since the last meeting
- We have seen a dramatic increase in calls the week of August 9th. This week we have
had 9 calls for service which has made for a busy week
- The Fire/Public works parking lot paving project is complete and look great.
- Novel Energy came out to check on the solar panels on the fire station roof and found
that one of the inverters is not working and will need to be replaced. We have not heard
back from them on when this will happen.
- We still have not heard if the generator grant we applied for with FEMA will be
approved or not due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- We are working on the May Township contract cost estimates
- Last year’s new recruits and this year’s recruits are starting their FF training at the Stacy
Lent fire training facility on August 18th. This training will run through the end of
December.
Staffing
- Adriane Krager has given her resignation effective July 30th. Adriane is hoping that she
will return to the department in a few years.
- We had a new resident of Scandia come in for a tour and information about joining the
department. We have not seen an application from him yet, but hope he will apply as he
does already have some fire background and lots of medical experience.
COVID-19
- Currently our inventory of PPE is sufficient for our current needs.
- We are purchasing additional PPE with grant funds, for reserve since the supply chain
for PPE is still not back to full capacity and we anticipate that it will not be normal for
the next year or two.
- We did purchase a disinfecting fogger to use at the fire station and all other city facilities
as needed.
- City of Scandia Emergency declaration, we would like to leave the emergency
declaration in place at this time. We feel that it does allow more flexibility under this
pandemic to receive grants and other funding opportunities.
