9.d3 Lions Proposal for a sidewalk at Hay Lake Shelter
Staff Report
Date of Meeting: 8-18-20
To: Mayor, City council
From: Adam Hawkinson, Director of Public Works
Re: Lions Donation - Hay Lake sidewalk installation
Background:
Hay Lake Park has a very nice parking lot but the access to the shelter is an uneven grass gravel
mix of terrain. The Lions organization has approved funds based on the quote of $3,800.00
from Graley to cover the costs of cement, rebar, forming, and labor to have a 5’ ADA sidewalk
access installed from the parking lot to the park shelter. The cost of labor and materials to
perform the grading and base work for the sidewalk would be the responsibility of the public
works department. The existing culvert that is under the current pathway is failing and needs
to be reset.
Issue:
Does the City Council approve moving forward with the project and accept the donation from
the Lions Organization?
Proposal Details:
The public works (PW) department would contact out the removal and replacement of the
culvert and have some ditching performed to remove accumulated sediment. The PW staff
would cut, fill, grade, and prepare the area for the sidewalk installation. Grayley would perform
the cement work to finish out the project.
Fiscal Impact:
Lions have committed to pay for the concrete work. Materials and time for the PW portion
would be about 2 days with labor and machines and about $1,200 for the culvert and ditching.
Options:
1. Accept proposal and donation.
2. Don’t accept proposal and donation
Recommendation:
Option 1
