5.a. Chair reportPRC Chair report – for July 6, 2020 Follow up on Additional Pollinator project At the June 1 PRC meeting, Jordan Boysen, a junior at FLHS, presented his proposal for a new pollinator garden. PRC asked him to confirm a few things like on-going maintenance (made that a requirement), how he would handle the small amount of money for the maintenance fund, site preparation, and present more info on what they wanted to plant. PRC committed to getting them additional guidance but did not ok the project We suggested they return to the July 6 meeting for an update. After conversations with Jordan and Karen Schik from the Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails (FSPT), all agreed that it would be best to have the group work on improving the existing pollinator garden at Lilleskogen. This would meet the objectives of Jordan’s group as well as solve the practical problem of longer-term maintenance of the site, incorporating that with the work already done by FSPT. Jordan expressed a desire of add some educational elements, perhaps signage, regarding pollinators for the site. Karen and Jordan have been in contact, however no further updates are available as of July 5. Early Bird Migration Project As noted in the PW report, the council approved, with some additional funding, Olivia Niebauer’s project. Olivia, Ann Rinkenberger, PW Director Adam Hawkinson, and I met at the Wayne Erickson and Hay Lake Parks to review the plan, get need input and support from Hawkinson, and lay out plantings at each site. I attended the July 1 city council meeting to support the project , at which time the project was approved. Olivia is now in planning phases, will be seeking volunteers, and expects to do the project in late August or September. Respectfully submitted, Terry Gorham PRC Chair
