Re: October Events at Fire Station
Background:
We have been hosting two events in October for the last few years and want to host 2 modified
events this year. We have fire prevention and our safe Halloween events. We plan to modify
what we do to meet the Covid-19 rules. We will need to modify the Covid-19 business plan to
allow these events as currently the plan states “The fire station is closed to the public”.
Issue:
Should the fire department still host there two October events?
Proposal Details:
For the fire prevention event we will have the Lions prepare and serve the food, we will set up
the truck bay for eating to meet the social distancing requirement. We will also be doing our
demonstrations outside. Everyone will be required to wear a mask when not eating.
For the Safe Halloween event we will have the Lions do all the food as they did for fire
prevention. We are still working out the final details for how we will hand out candy since the
games we did in the past will not work. 2 options currently are to have stations set up along a
trail behind the fire station or a trunk drive by.
Changes to the Covid-19 business plan;
I believe if we add “Access to the building is by appointment only or during approved special
events”.
Fiscal Impact:
The only fiscal impact will be the additional cleaning that will be done during and after the
event, we anticipate this to be $150 per event.
Options:
(1) Direct staff to change Covid-19 business plan as proposed and approve the two events.
(2) Modify the plan in some other form
(3) Do not have the events
Recommendation:
Option (1).
