7.b)2) Washington Conservation District CommentsWashington Conservation District Manure Management Recommendations October 20, 2015 Via e-mail to Sherri Buss dated October 19, 2015: I just met with Greg and Betsy on the property. We talked about manure management and the best way to deal with the manure. We both decided that building a compost area for the manure would be the best way to deal with the manure. This is a very efficient way of dealing with the horse manure. It will also keep the flies down, plus have a good benefit with the compost. They both want what is best for the animals. They have fenced off the pond and will let the vegetation grow up around the pond. They also understand the benefits of pasture rotations and over grazing of the pasture. I left plans for how to build a compost bin for horse manure. Wendy Griffin Washington Conservation District 455 Hayward Ave N Oakdale Mn 55128 651.330.8220.24 Response from Greg Amundson: Wendy; Just to clarify your recommendations. During the summer, spring and fall we would use a harrow to break down the manure in the field and the manure in the lean to area we would place in a compost pile near the barn and/or lean to for composting. The compost area would be outside of the 100 foot setback. Thanks again for stopping out to see us. I learned a lot. Greg Amundson
