8.d Tourism Draft Minutes 11-10-2020 Page 1 of 2 Scandia Tourism Committee Minutes November 10, 2020 - 9:00 am Meeting Via GoToMeeting.com and Boxcast.com Members in Attendance: Sarah Porubcansky; Lynne Moratzka, Kirsten Libby, and Lisa Schlingerman Absent: Dana Khu and Julie Gasek Staff in attendance: Mayor Christine Maefsky, Administrator Ken Cammilleri, PRC Chair Terry Gorham and Office Assistant Bee Stignani. Call to Order – Committee Chair Porubcansky called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m. Approval of the Agenda – Motion by Libby, seconded by Moratzka, to approve the agenda with flexibility. Motion carried upon unanimously. Approval of the October 13, 2020 Meeting Minutes –Motion by Libby, seconded by Moratzka to approve the minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Signage: Scandia Sign Policy Recommendation – Maefsky prepared a proposed draft of the Scandia Tourism Committee Signage Recommendations. Discussion concluded with amending this draft to read Primary Signs: “3. Signs should be constructed with two brick supports or composite supports made to look like wood, whichever is most appropriate to the setting, designed to last 15 years or more. Any sign supports at or below grade shall be treated to refusal material.” Motion by Libby, seconded by Schlingerman, to propose the amended draft of the Tourism Committee Signage Recommendations to City Council. Motion carried unanimously. Signage: Park Signage – Gorham presented the need for the PRC to have TC approve signage for submission to City Council for park signs. Stignani provided a staff report for the quotes from Soderlund’s Wood Mill. Motion by Libby, seconded by Schlingerman, to recommend to City Council to accept the $4,500 sign design by Soderlund’s Wood Mill for Scandia Parks. Motion carried unanimously. Signage: Wojtowicz Skate Park Rink Advertisement – Gorham presented the need for PRC to have advertisements approved by TC to move forward on applications received. Cammilleri clarified the question before TC is twofold, first to distinguish if TC supports advertisements displayed on the interior of the Wojtowicz skate rink and second, if there are more requirements necessary beyond the established dimensions in the current policy for rink advertisements. Maefsky provided history to the situation and the committee discussion concluded that they did not support Page 2 of 2 recommending advertisements being located in the Wojtowicz Skate Park. Therefore, no further discussion on was needed to consider amending the current policy. Motion by Libby, seconded by Porubcansky, to recommend City Council advertisements be prohibited at the Wojtowicz Skate Park rink to preserve the cultural Swedish heritage look that is developing in the Village Core. Motion carried unanimously. Website Design: Content – Maefsky prepared a draft of the new website’s horizontal related link section. Staff will enter them into the new site after the final upcoming training. Staff will meet with Ann Rinkenberger for selecting photographs from her collection to be used on the new site. Further discussion tabled until training is complete and draft link changes are made. Stignani reported that the City has procured the domain names “cityofscandia.com” and “visitscandia.com”. Website Design: Select Extra Meeting Dates to Edit Content Live – Porubcansky recommended meeting with staff to edit website live in a smaller setting to be presented at an additional TC meeting set for Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 9 a.m. Moratzka will meet with Schlingerman to present on December 1st recommendations for businesses and locations to be included in the Area Attractions internally linked webpage. Libby will prepare recommendations for businesses to be included in the Amenities internally linked webpage. All present unanimously agreed to this date and time to be in addition to the Tuesday, December 8, 2020 meeting at 9 a.m. Tourism Committee Goals – Not discussed as Schlingerman exited the meeting early as planned. Committee Members are encouraged to revisit the Tourism Study prior to the next meeting to use as guidance for inclusion/exclusion in the website pages dedicated to “Visit Scandia.” Adjournment – Motion by Porubcansky, seconded by Moratzka, to adjourn.
