October 20 City Council Meeting
The council reviewed minutes of and had several comments or actions related to the October PRC
meeting.
RInk Advertising
Mayor Maefsky asked that any additional advertising or policy changes be deferred until the tourism
committee has reviewed. Currently there are no documented standards other than the size of the
advertising to fit the boards. Adam stated that there are three requests for advertising. No action was
taken on the policy change proposal to allow for ‘free’ advertising with a $500 community donation.
Gateway Trail Extension
There was significant discussion regarding the proposal to add design funding of $8,000 for an extension
to the gateway trail, to connect it to the Scandia mall via a city owned property that connects to Ozark
avenue. While the question was raised if the timing was right since no funding is likely in this budget
cycle, Administrator Cammilleri, and supported by the city engineer Goodman, stated that the city
contribution and readiness to build would be favorable when dollars were granted. The proposal was
not acted upon, as the council asked for input from the adjacent property owner.
Cammilleri later reported that additional discussion is needed. Adding this extension is possible, but
the city would be responsible for funding the construction of this segment and be responsible
for the ongoing maintenance.
New park from tax-forfeited parcel
The resolution number 2020-38 to accept the tax forfeited land on Orwell Avenue was accepted. The
council asked if there had been any community input. At this time, the minimum requirements to
accept the property as a park have been met. Any additional development would be preceded by
community input.
Hwy 95 / Olinda Trail Garden
There were no objections to the proposal to reimburse the Real Housewives of Bone Lake up to $600 to
adopt the garden at Hwy 95 and Olinda. The only question was whether this needed council approval.
Camilleri determined that he had authority to spend up to $5,000 of the budgets under his control, and
thus no council motion or resolution was needed.
Bench donation
The proposal to accept the bench the Wojtowicz skate park will be accepted, however the design
standards for these benches needs to be further and clearly stated.
Respectfully submitted, Terry Gorham
