8d. 2016-1-19 Engineering Updates�N 8, 1 , 1 h m i n n_ s, t a City ofScandia Engineering Updates 1/19/2016 Engineering • 2016 Street Improvements (236tn Street N, Novak Ave N, 237tn Street N, Oldfield Ave N) Construction Plans have been completed and on the January 19tn City Council Agenda a request to the City Council will be presented to Approve Plans & Specifications and Authorize Ad for Bids. Anticipated Bid Opening is tentatively 2/17/2016. • Watershed District Projects: 1. 197t" Street Ravine Stabilization Project — This project is nearly completed other than the remaining work that will be completed in the spring that includes sediment removal and restoration of the lower wetland. 2. Sand Lake Iron Enhanced Sand Filter Project — Contractor started excavation the afternoon on January 12, 2016. Installation of the storm manhole and related pipe is anticipated to be completed by the end of the week. If weather holds, the schedule then would be to begin installation of the infiltration media the week of January 181n We have completed our Zavoral Mine Traffic Summary for the 2016 Annual Operating Permit and in summary have the following: 1. In conclusion, low volumes along with low crash rates indicate safety on the corridor has not be compromised due to trucking operations at the Zavoral Mine, however, if any traffic issues are identified in 2016, video data and analysis may be necessary to verify the problem and the recommended improvements. Crashes will continue to be monitored every six months. January 20th I will be attending a mid -project update from the USGS Research to Characterize Groundwater and Surface -water intersections in the NE Metro. 1. Metropolitan Council will discuss the background and context for this project in relation to other efforts underway. USGS will outlined the schedule for this project and describe the details including what data has been incorporated, how major decisions were made about the analytical approach, and the planned project deliverables. • January 27-29 1 will be attending the City Engineer's Association of Minnesota Annual Conference at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center. A few topics related to the City that will be presented at the conference include: 1. Deficiencies and Remedies of Pavement Stripping 2. Utilizing GPS and GIS Information in Emergency Operations Planning 3. Using GIS to Assess Risk and Prioritize Storm Sewer Maintenance 4. Stormwater Reuse 5. Local Road Research Board update 6. Sanitary Sewer Service Lining 7. Asset Management: From Rural to Metro Perspectives 8. Metro Area Groundwater Sustainability and Response at the Local Level 9. MnDOT Commissioner's Update / Metropolitan Council Update / Legislative Update
