6.d Staff Report pay change fire dept Staff Report Date of Meeting: February, 16th 2021 To: City Council From: Mike Hinz, Fire Chief Re: Pay Rate Change Background: We have 4 firefighters that have completed and passed their FF certification. Nick Bancks, Steven Greenhow, Tim O’Neill & Nick Vannelli. Per our policy they should receive a stipend of $100.00 to cover some of the time that they spent in class (140 hours). Also, if they are past their probation period, they should receive a $1.00 increase in their pay rate Issue: Should the city pay the stipend for certification completion & also adjust pay rate for members no longer on probation? Proposal Details: *Pay the $100.00 stipend for Nick Bancks, Steven Greenhow, Tim O’Neill & Nick Vannelli as part of their next pay cycle. *Increase Steven Greenhow’s pay rate from $12.33/hr to $13.33/hr for completing a certification. Note this is the top pay scale unless he becomes an officer. *Increase Nick Vannelli’s pay rate from $11.33/hr to $12.33/hr for completing a certification. Nick will have another increase when he passes his EMT certification Fiscal Impact: The fiscal impact for the stipend is $400.00 and is included in the budget. The fiscal impact for the pay rate change is estimated at ~$300.00 this is also included in our current budget. Options: (1) Pay the stipend for Bancks, Greenhow, O’Neill & Vannelli. Also adjust the pay rate for Greenhow to $13.33/hr & Vannelli to $12.33/hr. (2) Do nothing Recommendation: Option (1).
