Re: Rink Access modification request
Background:
The hockey rink was an old rink purchased or given to the City from Richfield and was an
indoor rink where the environment is much more controlled and they don't need to
flood. The City's hockey rink has an 8' opening for Zamboni access to the open rink and
for dumping it's load. It is tight for the Zamboni to fit through and when the existing
swing doors were on it was even a tighter fit. The flooding is currently done by hose and
consumes many hours to establish ice.
Issue:
Limited eight -foot door opening is tight for the Zamboni and has caused damage to the
equipment in the past. If the door was widened, we could flood with the City's Fire
Dept. tender to expedite the flooding and rink opening.
Proposal:
Staff would like permission to widen the doorway to 10' using the brackets as drawn
and have 2x12 boards available to rink users to install for hockey games or practices.
Fiscal:
There was no funding provided in the budget for this Park project but there are
maintenance funds that could be used. Price tag is $350.00 plus or minus. Staff would
do the welding/ manufacturing.
