6. Memo Annual To-do List Matrix Details Staff Report Date of Meeting: March, 03 2021 To: City Council From: Mike Hinz, Fire Chief Re: Task Matrix During the transition to part-time fire chief, I presented a matrix of items that would assist in making good use of this time. I have included a copy of the sheet that I have been using. For 2019, 2020 & 2021. Most items on the list were completed, but the conferences were not met due to the fact that for half of 2020 these types of items were shut down. I was also not doing pre-plan reviews due to most businesses not being open or not wanting any unnecessary people in their facility. I have added some items to the list and also changed some of the goal numbers on some items. To reflect what was really needed or better suited for those items. I plan to keep adding items to the list that are ongoing tasks. COVID-19 put quite a strain on our fire department. This created many extra duties that I had to set as a priority that were not part of this matrix and hopefully will go away when we reach herd immunity. One of the digest things was making sure everyone felt safe and was safe. I had to take into consideration the members' families and our community residents. We had quite a range of fear among the membership, we had members that were very fearful of the virus and others that felt it was serious but not horrible, while others felt that it was a hoax and we were wasting our time and money. This meant that I ended up having a lot of one-on-one meetings with members to hear their concerns and explain why we needed to do things the way we did. Another was keeping supplies in stock and finding supplies for new recommendations for protective equipment from the CDC. As soon as an item was recommended the supply would virtually disappear. So, I spent a lot of time tracking down items and procuring these items.
