5.b Staff Report Staff Report Date of Meeting: April 5, 2021 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Brenda “Bee” Stignani, Office Assistant Re: Staff Report Name Orwell Ave N new park survey Staff created a survey with Gorham: Submit Suggestions for City of Scandia's Newest Park! Survey (surveymonkey.com) Staff recommends launching this survey into the community after the Scandia’s 1,000 Acts of Kindness event concludes May 2, 2021. Staff requests direction from PRC for a launch date. Wayne Erickson Memorial Ball Field Advertisement Banners Staff mailed letters to the current banners on the fences, requesting 2021 support. The opportunity to advertise is listed on the city’s website as a news item and as a support our parks internal page. The contract period is April 1st – March 31st annually. Final Update from Retiring PW Director Hawkinson The tennis court nets have been installed and skate park equipment will be reinstalled at a later date as the weather permits. Hawkinson’s parting words for PRC: I appreciate the effort that the PRC members have put into trying to improve the community’s parks and outdoor opportunities. I wish them all the best for the upcoming playground development. Cheers, Adam Hay Lake Water Fountain Staff reached out to the Washington County DNR Hydrologist, Dan Scollan, with questions regarding issues surrounding the consideration of installing a water fountain at Hay Lake Park. Scollan directed staff to other resources. Staff is waiting for responses. Sign Update Soderlund’s Mill contacted Behnken Brick and Stone to finalize details regarding the mounting design in order to begin making the Lilleskogen Park sign. Prior to Hawkinson’s retirement, he provided the following information to PRC members: FYI: the proposed area for the Lilleskogen Park sign to be installed has been marked with two stakes. I chose the area for three reasons: (the county likes a good reasoning for adding features) 1.) The light located at the site is already an obstacle for the county 2.) The light will help light up the sign at night 3.) It is set out enough that people will see it sooner than if it were set back out of their right of way. Please go take a look when you are out and about. In the picture it is the light blue straight dotted line circled.
