Hi Neil,
Welcome to Scandia, I hope you are settling in well! I am a member of a local citizen group, Friends of
Scandia Parks and Trails. I think you a probably aware of our group through the efforts of Janie O'Connor and
Karen Schik, who have been working on a Pollinator Garden in collaboration with the local 4-H group.
Our group is interested in helping Scandia to become a Pollinator Friendly City, and I have attached a draft resolution to that
effect. We believe that such an initiative would benefit our community greatly, and be quite easy to implement. Scandia would
become one of the first cities in Minnesota to adopt such a resolution, joining Minneapolis, Shorewood, Lake Elmo and
Stillwater. The National Park Service is also promoting public and private partnerships to improve pollinator habitat along
the St. Croix River Watershed. (http://home.nps.gov/sacn/learn/nature/upload/pollinator resolution.pdf). Such a resolution
would also be well in line with the Green Step Cities program of which Scandia is a part.
The attached resolution is only a draft. I was not quite sure how to introduce such an initiative and I hope to work with you
and the city council to develop a resolution that the city would feel comfortable implementing. I have also given Mayor
Simonson a copy of the draft.
Can you please let me know what the best way to proceed from here would be? Thanks for your consideration!
