8.b2 Amundson letter_Sandager Rezoning May 17, 2021 To: Scandia City Council and Mayor From: Greg Amundson Re: Rustic Roots and Abrahamson’s rezoning Council and Mayor; I’m writing you today to ask that you carefully review and consider the request for rezoning for Rustic Roots and Abrahamson’s Nursury. I realize the sensitivity of this request which the Planning Commission denied. I did not agree with the Planning Commission to deny the rezoning request. I struggle with the arguments that if the rezoning is approved it opens the doors for future Walmart’s, gas stations and who knows what else that would locate on Highway 95 on the Sandager property. My issue with this argument is simply one of “feasibility”. Scandia is a community out in a rural setting that would never qualify for a Walmart and any significant retailer to locate here. There simply are not enough people in the area. We continually discuss what types of businesses we want in Scandia and the discussion often times turns to unique Ag businesses to protect the rural setting we all enjoy and love and to keep our lands undeveloped. The Sandager’s application for rezoning checks off all of the boxes for what Scandia stands for and the types of businesses we want in Scandia. They come to the table with a personal commitment to caring about the community, a long standing reputation for doing what is right and also an excellent neighbor that is very well respected. I believe that this could be a wonderful and pleasing addition to our fine community. Sincerely, Greg Amundson
