10.b River Taskforce Letter 71 k.cammilleri Subject:St. Croix River issues From: Sandy Simon Sent: Monday, May 17, 2021 10:39 PM To: c.maefsky <c.maefsky@ci.scandia.mn.us>; k.cammilleri <k.cammilleri@ci.scandia.mn.us> Subject: St. Croix River issues RE: In support of the task force to insure river mandates are enforced. Dear Mayor Maefsky and council member K. Miller We all want to protect the waterfront. In our cabin at 21565 on the River, we often see and hear abuses: the most unsettling to us are the nightime fishing boats with their high glare military lights. Occupants are often yelling, talking, and moving about from midnight to 4 a.m. The intense lights beam through our bedroom curtains repeatedly. - Secondly, 9 times out of 10 the “no wake” law isn’t observed. We see this every day, several times a day. Many speeders are going too fast for us to try to catch a registration number. Perhaps boaters aren't aware of the law; I haven’t seen signage to that affect on the river. (perhaps ascetically pleasing signage is necessary - hidden cameras?) - Over the 4 months we are usually there, we have seen mud motor boats about 3 or 4 times tearing up the marsh. - We haven’t had campers on our land, but I know they are been on neighbor’s vacant cabin land on occasion. - Early Sunday mornings there is a gun owner who shoots an AK 14 or whatever they are called, an automatic rifle, continuously for a few hours. Recreation? It annoys me completely. It may be coming from across the water south of Osceola some of the time, but it happens on our side as well. I have called the Sheriff about this, its consistent on Sunday mornings. Thank you for your support in reigning in these abuses. The St. Croix might have hope to become the serene protected waterway it’s reputed to be. Sincerely Sandy Simon Sandy Simon 2 21565 St. Croix Trail N Scandia MN 55073
