seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
Signs – Wayfinding – Discussion focused on the types of signs MnDOT would approve, what it
would look like and where to locate the first one with the intent to phase in other signs in other
budget years. Consensus to place the first signs at intersection of Hwy 97 and Olinda Trl N, both
east and west bound. The existing signs pointing to Gammelgarden Museum, Business District and
Historical Marker will not be disturbed. MnDOT provided small icons of a Custom Design
Community Wayfinding Sign. Consensus to use that template to create a design with the city’s Dala
Horse from the logo on the top, the words “Historic Scandia” next listing in order: Merchants Area ,
Community Center and City Hall beneath. The sign to be Swedish Blue and the letters and arrows
to be white. Staff will submit example and design requests to Gasek with the request to create a
mock up which could be submitted to a sign making company for an estimate.
Sister City – Mellerud, Sweden – Moratzka reported that a group of citizens rescheduled their
next meeting for later this week.
Explore MN Conference – Big Tourism Questions to Consider – Porubcansky presented
thoughts about these workshops. Discussion around how to promote Scandia and considering a
presentation by shrpa.com. Committee members will go to this website independently over the next
few weeks and it will be an agenda item to discuss at the next meeting.
Feedback - Ice Sculpture - three area businesses represented reported increased business from
new customers who do not reside in the area as well as area residents who had not patronized
downtown businesses in years or decades. Porubcansky has requested data from Get Knit Events
organizers about number of tickets sold and the number of check ins with the QR Codes, but they
have not responded yet. Get Knit Events intends to host a similar event next winter.
