Scandia Tourism Committee
Minutes
April 27, 2021 – 4:00 p.m.
Meeting Via Zoom and Boxcast.com
Members in Attendance: Sarah Porubcansky; Lynne Moratzka, Kirsten Libby and Lisa
Schlingerman.
Absent: Julie Gasek
Staff in attendance: Mayor Christine Maefsky, Administrator Ken Cammilleri, Office Assistant Bee
Stignani, resident Sue Dickens and Shrpa representative Chris Lukenbill.
Call to Order –Chair Porubcansky called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m., a quorum is present.
Approve the Agenda – Libby moved to approve the agenda, Porubcansky seconded. Motion
carried unanimously.
Approval of the Minutes – Moratzka moved to accept the March 23, 2021 minutes, Libby
seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
Shrpa Presentation – Chris Lukenbill demonstrated how to use and create content for adventures
on www.shrpa.com Lukenbill presented the options and costs to the committee. Initially the
committee proposed to recommend to City Council to join Shrpa at the Day Trip level but staff
recommended a different approach. Committee members discussed the topic and all consented to
invite Lukenbill to present again to the EDA to request funding the project for one trial year at the
Day Trip level to have professionals prepare 4 Adventures in Scandia at a cost of $450 if action is
taken prior to the first week of June.
Signs – Wayfinding – Staff presented the mock up version prepared by Jeff Gasek for a wayfinding
sign from the meeting packet. Committee members discussed the visual representation of their last
meeting and decided to request the following modifications: increase the size of half circle at the top
of the sign, to leave the dala horse in the same location but add white kurbits, and change the words
“Merchant Area” to “Shops & Museums”.
Motion by Porubcansky, seconded by Libby, to change “Merchant Area” to “Shops &
Museums” on the wayfinding sign design. Approved by roll call vote 4-0.
Motion by Moratzka, seconded by Libby, to enlarge the ½ circle, add white kurbits in white,
leave the dala in the same location on the wayfinding sign design. Approved by roll call vote
4-0.

Sister City – Mellerud, Sweden – the subcommittee has reached out to individuals in Mellerud and
received one positive response. However, there has been no additional communication. Scandia
remains committee to pursue options, but the subcommittee did not meet this week as there was no
new information to consider. Porubcansky commented that she is aware of some residents of
Scandia who intend to visit Sweden this year, in the Mellerud area and perhaps they can make
contact.
