Re: Vinterfest Preliminary Event Proposals
Background:
The Parks and Recreation Committee recommended the listed deadline dates for Vinterfest
2016 at their April 6, 2015 meeting. These dates were formally approved at the April 21,
2015 City Council meeting.
Preliminary Event Proposals: Submit for Parks and Recreation Committee review at the
September 14, 2015 meeting (with documentation to Negus by no later than September 4,
2015).
Final Event Submission: To November 2, 2015 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting for
approval (with documentation to Negus no later than October 23, 2015).
City Council Approval: November 17, 2015
Vinterfest 2016: January 29 and 30, 2016
Vinterfest donation guidelines to support Lilleskogen and the Wojtowicz Skating Park were
formally approved at the June 16, 2015 City Council meeting and include:
For-profit organization: 50 percent of the net proceeds or a minimum donation of $500.
Scandia non-profits: $200 donation, with option to sell Vinterfest buttons with a $2 per
button donation with sales to be set at $3 per button , or an in-kind donation valued at
$200.
Other non-profits: Minimum $500 donation.
PRC: No donation required.
Issues:
What preliminary event proposals should be recommended by the Parks and Recreation
Committee? What changes to the event proposals should be recommended by the
Committee?
Proposal Details:
There have been four preliminary event proposals submitted.
1. Scanley Cup 2016 submitted by Corey Roberts.
2. Lilletour & Quizpromenade and other events submitted by Lynne Moratzka and
Pamela Arnold.
3. Cub Scout Pack 173 Vinterfishing contest submitted by Roxanne Rydeen and Lisa
Pothen.
4. Vintage Snowmobile Show submitted by Linda Marotzke representing the Big
Marine Lake Assocation.
I have included each of the proposals in the meeting materials. Representatives for each of
the proposed events will be present to address any questions.
Fiscal Impact:
Unknown at this time.
Options:
1. Approve preliminary event proposals as presented for Vinterfest 2016.
2. Amend and then approve preliminary events as proposed for Vinterfest 2016.
3. Do not approve preliminary event proposals as presented for Vinterfest 2016.
Recommendation:
Committee members should consider the preliminary event proposals and agree to any
recommended changes.
