Re: Pollinator Planting Project
Background:
Janie O’Connor provided staff with the Pollinator Planting Project documentation that is
included in your meeting materials. O’Connor and Karen Schik requested this topic of
discussion to be on the agenda for the October 5 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting.
Schik informed Soaring Eagles 4-H will likely present the proposed project. The proposed site is
land that was transferred to the City when it was developed (rather than paying $3,000 in Park
Dedication fees).
Issue:
Should the Parks and Recreation Committee approve the pollinator planting project at the City
of Scandia park land located at the corner of Oren Road North and Olgilvie Avenue North? It
appears the residents in this development cleared some land for use of an ice rink. Would the
residents in this development support the pollinator planting project?
Proposal Details:
Along with the documentation, the proposal will be presented by Soaring Eagles 4 -H for
consideration. As well, O’Connor and Schik may provide additional information.
Fiscal Impact:
Unknown. The impact of maintenance of this proposal b eyond three years is uncertain.
Options:
1. Approve pollinator planting project as presented.
2. Amend pollinator planting project and then approve.
3. Do not approve pollinator planting project.
Recommendation:
Committee members should review the proposal as presented and make a recommendation.
