6.a) Staff Report-Log House Landing Signage STAFF REPORT Date of Meeting: November 2, 2015 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Judi Negus, Office Assistant Re: Log House Landing Signage - National Park Service Background: In June 2014, City Administrator Handt received a call from Jill Medland of the National Park Service requesting to attend a Parks and Recreation Committee meeting to discuss signage for Log House Landing. Staff invited the National Park Service to attend the August 4, 2014 meeting and shared the “Scandia Parks, Trails, and Open Space Signage Guidelines” adopted in May 2013. The National Park Service was looking to partner with the City to add signage to the landing in recognition of its historical significance. Lisa Schlingerman was in attendance at the meeting and agreed to be a resource for historical reference. At that meeting, Jill Medland of the National Park Service stated signage would provide park visitors information regarding rules, safety, health, and other issues they need to be aware of. Medland shared the signage would identify Log House Landing as part of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Medland stated the National Park Service d id not have a recommendation for signage at that time. The National Park Service requested to work with the City to incorporate the National Park Services guidelines and the City’s recommendations. The Committee agreed to collaborate with the National Park Service for signage at Log House Landing. Issue: Should the Parks and Recreation Committee recommend the proposed signage at Log House Landing as presented? Proposal Details: Julie Galonska of the National Park Service and Lisa Schlingerman asked to be placed on the November 2, 2015 meeting agenda to present examples of signage to be installed at Log House Landing for Committee consideration. Fiscal Impact: Uncertain at this time. Options: 1) Recommend approval of the proposed signage at Log House Landing as presented. 2) Recommend changes to the proposed signage at Log House Landing and then approve. 3) Do not approve proposed signage at Log House Landing as presented. Recommendation: Committee members should consider the presented signage and make a recommendation .
