7.a Staff Report Pickleball Courts Staff Report Date of Meeting: July 8, 2021 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Brenda “Bee” Stignani, Office Assistant Re: Staff Report Pickleball Courts Resident Erich Kertzscher attended the June 7, 2021 PRC meeting and left staff with documents for future discussions on upgrading the current te nnis courts in an effort to increase the number of Pickleball courts. • Currently the Community Center courts have the ability to reduce the height of the net with a strap and secondary court markings to convert one Tennis court into one Pickleball court. o If portable nets are purchased and court markings are changed, each court has the space to allow for two Pickleball courts on each Tennis court. • Altering the existing courts would allow the following to be played simultaneously: o one game of Tennis and two Pickleball games o four games of Pickleball o two games of Tennis • Additional supplies that would enhance the existing facilities for Pickleball players would include o Locked storage (bench, box or small shed) for supplies o Portable blower or brooms to clear tree debris as needed • Possible supplies to consider – o $180 pe r portable net – would need four, free shipping, USA Pickleball Portable Net System - https://www.pickleballcentral.com/USAPA_Pickleball_Portable_Net _System_p/usa01.htm o $330 per portable net, free shipping, SwiftNet 2.1 Pickleball Net System for serious players - https://www.pickleballcentral.com/SwiftNet_Portable_Pickleball_Net_p/pb05.htm o Or this advice article provides a chart with the ability to check current prices on their favorite portable nets: https://www.pickleballportal.com/gear/nets-and-sets/best-portable- pickleball-nets/ o Combination locks to secure nets to exterior fence – Pickleball players suggested this, so they could pass the code around to other Pickleball players or contact office staff as other organizations successfully use this practice • Tennis West - http://tenniswestltd.com/index.cfm - redid the tennis courts for a total of $11,235 in August of 2018. The fee to resurface, color coat and stripe the courts for Tennis and Pickleball was $9,285. This includes a $700 discount for painting all green. The additional costs were for installing posts, anchors and straps for both sports.
