Re: Vinterfest 2016 Logo and Updates
Background:
At the November 2, 2015 Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, Chair Jinks informed he
and Rasmussen met with Jeni O’Brien who agreed to volunteer to develop a new Vinterfest
logo that would be used annually. Jinks provided Committee members with a variety of logos
for consideration. Committee members agreed to attend a special meeting to review the logos
and decide which one would be recommended approval prior to the November 17, 2015 City
Council meeting. Due to time constraints, a special meeting was not scheduled.
As well, at that meeting Negus agreed to ask Mayor Simonson to take on the role of Saami
reindeer herder elder for Vinterfest 2016. Mayor Simonson agreed but requested the
Committee clarify the expectations. (Role? Specific times at specific events? Time
commitment?)
Issues:
1) Should the Parks and Recreation Committee recommend a new Vinterfest logo?
2) What are the specific expectations of Mayor Simonson?
Proposal Details:
Included in your meeting materials is a variety of logos for consideration.
Fiscal Impact:
N/A; Jeni O’Brien has agreed to volunteer her time and talent to create the new logo. There are
no planned expenses for Mayor Simonson’s role as reindeer herder elder.
Options:
1) Recommend approval of a new logo for Vinterfest.
2) Recommend changes to a logo for Vinterfest and then approve.
3) Do not recommend a new logo for Vinterfest.
Recommendations:
1) Committee members should consider the proposed logos and make a recommendation.
2) Committee members should clarify Mayor Simonson’s role as reindeer herder elder.
3) Committee members should share any Vinterfest updates.
