SUBJECT: Summary of recent actions by the City Council relating to the Planning
Commission

BACKGROUND
In early 2020, members expressed a desire to receive a summary on actions taken by the City Council on
items reviewed by the Planning Commission. Planning and Zoning requests (such as variances, code
amendments, etc.) start with review and recommendations made by the Planning Commission, and then
are approved or denied by the City Council.
RECENT ITEMS
Variances
Two variance requests were reviewed by the Council at their July 20th meeting:
Variance request by Mark McGinley for a new septic system within required setbacks
o This request was approved by the City Council
o The Planning Commission recommended approval of the request at the July 2nd
Planning Commission meeting
Variance request by Dan Potter to construct stairs and an addition onto an existing deck within
the lake and east side setbacks
o This request was denied by the City Council at the June 22nd Council meeting
o The applicant revised their request to address concerns from the Council; the revised
request was approved by the Council at the July 20th Council meeting
