6. Scandia Business Recap August 9thScandia Business Recap – August 9th
1) Thirsty Buffalo
a. I met with Caitlin last Friday to say hello and also to let her know that we, as the city, would be happy to
assist in helping them get adjusted and to attract more business. We discussed their slow start which
was intentional so they could get fully staffed. In the near future they will start being open for lunch and
also are planning on various “happy hours” with discounts on appetizers and liquor. Caitlin has opened
and managed 3 restaurants in the Forest Lake area and she is looking forward to becoming Scandia’s
primary place to go eat.
i. Caitlin would like to be invited to one of our breakfast meetings and do a short presentation.
2) Osceola Medical Center
a. I spoke with Matt Forge today and asked about the re-opening of the Scandia Clinic. He said that it is
definitely “on the table” and that they are in the process of planning for the future which so far includes
Scandia. He commented on the fact that OMC is in a very good financial position and that they are also
getting tight for space at OMC. Matt is very encouraged by Scandia’s willingness to support OMC and in
maintaining a communication channel
3) Scandia Auto
a. Sadly, Leif Lundeen, is closing shop the end of September. The closing has nothing to do with the
Scandia business climate but for personal reasons. He will be missed by the residences in the area as
the mechanic offerings will be pretty limited. We will be starting to look for a new tenant this month
and I will keep you all updated.
4) Scandia Café
a. Spoke with Chelsie Williams and she is planning on being open this weekend on Saturday the14th.
5) PN Products
a. Peter and Colleen Nora recently purchased a new 3 axis C & C machine to make molds inhouse. They
have a number of beauty product customers who are demanding a quick turn around for prototype
samples. Previously PN had to wait for up to 4 weeks for a mold to produce samples. The new machine
can make a mold in one day and costs approximately $250,000.
6) InstaTrim Products
a. We are expanding into the European market later this month through Amazon. We believe this market
will be very strong for us. The requirements to expand overseas is endless and I’m amazed by how
difficult the IRS has been to get the required forms we need to sell in Europe. As a manufacturer, we are
receiving cost increases weekly and the time frame for raw materials has gone from one week up to 3
months on many items.
