SCANDIA GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, respecting, caring for, and helping others is a hallmark of the American character, and
central to how we as a community live; and
WHEREAS, respect and care for and from neighbors creates a more sustainable, resilient community
and makes Scandia a great place to live and be; and
WHEREAS, Scandia throughout its history has been the beneficiary of being a community of Good
Neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Ellen St. Sauver has been acting as a Good Neighbor in Scandia for many years,
contributing her talents and energy to the well being and health of our community, and
WHEREAS, Ellen was a beloved kindergarten teacher at Scandia Elementary School for over 30
years during which time she was and continues to be a strong advocate for the school district’s
educating Scandia children, and
WHEREAS, Ellen has supported the Scandia Meals on Wheels initiative through her baking and
contributing breads, cookies and other baked goods to recipients, and has also supplied fresh
cinnamon rolls to election judges on election days, and
WHEREAS, Ellen has been a longtime member of the Scandia Marine Lions Club, contributing
volunteer support as she has been able, and
WHEREAS, Ellen has shown her concern for the environment by volunteering her land to install a
storm water filtration system for Goose Lake, and
WHEREAS, Ellen’s helpful and generous nature came out when she heard of a fire at a local
residence earlier this summer; she reached out to offer her farm as housing for the family and
animals until they could rebuild, and
WHEREAS, Ellen St. Sauver has in multiple ways demonstrated the qualities of being a Good Neighbor
and has been nominated to receive this Award,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Scandia presents the Scandia Good Neighbor Award
to Ellen St. Sauver in recognition and appreciation.
