Re: Fire/PW Roof Replacement
Background:
At the July 20th meeting the council approved the roof replacement project for the Fire/PW & Annex
buildings. The total project cost approved was $ 115,119.00. When Staff contacted Novel Energy
(owner of the solar system) we were told that they would have to send us a quote for this. I stated that
I had asked about this when the city approved installing the system and was told it was not an issue
to replace the roof with the solar panels, they could be removed and reinstalled. After review of the
contract, we have found that the removal was not offset in the contract and says the city is
responsible for that cost.
Issue:
Should the Council approve the additional cost for removal & reinstall of the solar panels as part
of the roof replacement project?
Proposal Details:
Have Novel remove the solar panels so our contractor can replace the roof, then have Novel re-
install the solar panels.
Fiscal Impact:
The bid for the roof is $93,070.56 Plus $26,047.87 to remove & reinstall the solar panels for a
total of $119,118.43. The total cost for both buildings will be $141,166.87. The total CIP
estimate was $130,000. So the entire project will be $11,166.87 over the CIP estimate.
Options:
1) Approve the additional cost to replace the roofs.
2) Not replace the roof’s at this time
