06.d Volunteer Firefighter Levy resignation Staff Report Date of Meeting: September 21, 2021 To: City Council From: Fire Chief, Mike Hinz Re: Justin Levy Resignation Background: Justin Levy joined the Scandia Fire department 10/01/2019. He came to us with pervious firefighting service, but did need to complete his EMT certification. His ultimate goal was to become a full time firefighter, unable to find full time employment in the area he started looking out of state for employment. He decided to accept a firefighting position in Maryland. I have included his resignation letter with this report. Issue: Should the Council accept the resignation of Justin Levy? Proposal Details: Accept the resignation and continue to recruit new members every year. Fiscal Impact: Justin was currently paid $13.33/hour and made 70% of the calls first ½ of 2021. Options: 1) Accept Justin Levy’s Resignation. 2) Deny Justin Levy’s resignation Recommendation: Option 1. Chief Hinz, First and foremost, I want to thank you for the opportunity of being a firefighter/EMT with the City of Scandia. I have truly enjoyed my time here. As you are aware I have been in the hiring process for a Live- ln position with Berwyn Heights Fire and Rescue Squad in Prince George County, Maryland. I have completed and passed all the requirements for the position and have been offered the position, which I have since accepted. I am now writing to inform you that my last day with the City of Scandia Fire and Rescue will be Ftiday 8/2O/2O21. I will however like to keep my options open in case things do not work out and I move back to Scandia. tin Levy Thank you again for everything,
