Re: Step Increases, Stignani and Eklund
Background:
Under the City’s Compensation policy, each year on an employee’s anniversary date following a
satisfactory performance review and with approval by the City Council, the employee is eligible to
receive a step increase.
Brenda Stignani began employment with the City of Scandia on September 17, 2019 and has
completed her 2nd year of service to the City of Scandia. Based on the pay plan adopted by the City
Council on April 21, 2020, the Office Assistant is a Grade 4 position. Stignani is eligible to move
from Step 1 ($16.65/hr.) to Step 2 of the pay schedule ($17.23/hr.) retroactive to her anniversary
date of hire.
Brenda Eklund began employment with New Scandia Township/City of Scandia on October 1,
2004, and holds the position of City Clerk. Based on the pay plan adopted by the City Council on
April 21, 2020, the City Clerk is a Grade 12 position. Eklund is eligible to move from Step 1
($27.56/hr.) to Step 2 ($28.52/hr.) effective on her anniversary date of hire.
Issue:
Should the City Council approve step increases for Office Assistant/Parks and Recreation
Coordinator Brenda Stignani and City Clerk Brenda Eklund effective on their anniversary dates?
Proposal Details:
I recommend Stignani receive a step increase to Step 2 ($17.23/hr.) retroactive to her anniversary
date of hire. I recommend Eklund receive a step increase to Step 2 ($28.52/hr.) effective on her
anniversary date of hire.
Options:
1) Approve the step increases effective on anniversary dates of hire.
2) Do not approve the step increases.
Recommendation:
Option 1.
