SCANDIA GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, respecting, caring for, and helping others is a hallmark of the American character,
and central to how we as a community live; and
WHEREAS, respect and care for and from neighbors creates a more sustainable, resilient
community and makes Scandia a great place to live and be; and
WHEREAS, Scandia throughout its history has been the beneficiary of being a community of
Good Neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Gabriel Poyerd exhibited the qualities of being a good neighbor when he was
involved in the search for Maiya who went missing on June 15th. The whole neighborhood,
Scandia Fire and Rescue, the sheriff’s department, helicopters, and others were out in full
force trying to find her; and
WHEREAS, when all were starting to lose hope, Gabriel did not. He was out walking and
searching with his mom. He spotted Maiya in a swampy area where others had not been able
to see her; and
WHEREAS, when Gabriel saw Maiya he went right down into the swamp to be with her. He
had never given up looking. Because of Gabriel, Maiya was found in the critical time before
dark; and
WHEREAS, Maiya’s family considers Gabriel to be their hero and appreciate s all his efforts to
go above and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Gabriel Poyerd has through his heroic efforts demonstrated the qualities of being
a Good Neighbor and has been nominated to receive this Award,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Scandia presents the Scandia Good Neighbor
Award to Gabriel Poyerd in recognition and appreciation.
