SUBJECT: Summary of recent actions by the City Council relating to the Planning
Commission

BACKGROUND
In early 2020, members expressed a desire to receive a summary on actions taken by the City Council on
items reviewed by the Planning Commission. Planning and Zoning requests (such as variances, code
amendments, etc.) start with review and recommendations made by the P lanning Commission, and then
are approved or denied by the City Council.
RECENT ITEMS
Variances
Two variance requests were reviewed by the Council at their September 21st meeting:
Variance request by Chris and Erica Sandstrom for an addition within the side yard setback at
12959 Mayberry Trail North.
o This request was tabled by the City Council, as the applicant was revising their request
The revised request will be reviewed by the Planning Commission at a future
meeting
o The Planning Commission recommended denial of the request at the September 7
Planning Commission meeting
Variance request by Brian Gunst for an addition within the required rear setback at 19211
Meadowridge Lane North
o This request was denied by the City Council at the September 21st Council meeting
o The Planning Commission recommended denial of the request at the September 7
Planning Commission meeting
The variance request from Tom and Angie Conley, recommended for approval at the September
7 Planning Commission meeting, was withdrawn prior to the Council meeting.
