Re: Summer 2016 Recreation Programs
Background:
In October 2015, I met with Pam Wurster and Liz Mayer of Camp Lakamaga to discuss summer 2016
recreation programs offered through Camp Lakamaga. The City has a Program Agreement with
Camp Lakamaga to provide recreation activities to the City’s residents. In consideration of this
Agreement, the City pays Camp Lakamaga eighty percent (80%) of the registration fees.
Issue:
What summer recreation programs should be offered?
Proposal Details:
Camp Lakamaga will offer a full-day “Camp Adventurers, Woods and Water” camp that will be
similar to the full-day “Outdoor Explorers Day Camp” offered last year at an increased rate of $165.
(The rate last year was $160.) Camp Lakamaga will offer a half-day “Camp Explorers, 1st Stop-
Camp!” program that will be similar to last year’s “Junior Explorers Day Camp” at an increased rate
of $85. (The rate last year was $80.)
New this year, Camp Lakamaga is offering a “Ready, Set, GOAL!, Nets and Targets” program. The
half-day camp will offer volleyball and soccer team sports, as well as individual sports like gaga (a
variation of dodge ball), archery, swimming and badminton. The cost for the three-day camp will
be $50 and will run 8:30 a.m. to noon. There will be two sessions offered: June 27-29 and July 11-
13. This camp will be for 2nd to 4th graders.
Staff is again recommending offering the one hour per day week-long Tennis Camp. I am in the
process of securing the instructor, who has taught the program for the past two years, and dates for
the two sessions. The rate will be the same as last year at $35 a session.
Program details and registration forms will be an insert in the City spring newsletter that will be
sent to Scandia residents the end of March.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends we offer all the summer recreation programs detailed in the corresponding
documentation.
