5.e Staff Report-Camp Lakamaga Program AgreementSCANDIA Staff Report Date of Meeting: March 15, 2016 To: City Council From: Judi Negus, Office Assistant Re: Program Agreement with Girl Scouts of MN and WI River Valleys for Summer Recreation Programs Background: Since 2007, the City has partnered with the Girl Scouts of the Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys to offer summer recreation programs at Camp Lakamaga on Big Marine Lake. In October 2015, Staff met with Pam Wurster and Liz Mayer of Camp Lakamaga to discuss summer 2016 recreation programs offered through Camp Lakamaga. Issue: Is the attached Program Agreement between the City of Scandia and the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys for summer recreation programs acceptable? Proposal Details: Camp Lakamaga will offer a full -day "Camp Adventurers, Woods and Water" camp that will be similar to the full -day "Outdoor Explorers Day Camp" offered last year at an increased rate of $165. (The rate last year was $160.) Camp Lakamaga will offer a half -day "Camp Explorers, l st Stop -Camp!" program that will be similar to last year's "Junior Explorers Day Camp" at an increased rate of $85. (The rate last year was $80.) New this year, Camp Lakamaga is offering a "Ready, Set, GOAL!, Nets and Targets" program. The half -day camp will offer volleyball and soccer team sports, as well as individual sports like gaga (a variation of dodge ball), archery, swimming and badminton. The cost for the three-day camp will be $50 and will run 8:30 a.m. to noon. There will be two sessions offered: June 27-29 and July 11-13. This camp will be for 2nd to 4th graders. A copy of the Program Agreement is included with your meeting materials. This is the same agreement format that was used last year with updated dates. It has been signed by the Girl Scouts' Outdoor Program Director. Fiscal Impact: Program revenues will be shared between the City (20%) and River Valleys (80%) for all programs covered by the agreement. There will be no obligation to either party if programs need to be cancelled due to lack of registrations. Last year, the program generated $5,040, $1,008 of which the City retained. Options: 1) Approve the Program Agreement with Girl Scouts of MN and WI River Valleys. 2) Amend and then approve the Program Agreement with Girl Scouts of MN and WI River Valleys. 3) Take no action at this time. Recommendation: Option 1.
