8.f PW report February 2016SCANDIA March 15, 2016 Public Works Activity report for February 2016 Monday after Vinterfest, the crew did the clean-up around the warming house and city hall. Matting was rolled up, street barriers were picked up, recycle bins were returned to Washington County, snow pile that was used for snow sculptures was broke down and electric cords were raped up and put away. By the end of the day, things looked back to normal. We did have to repair the ice due to the extreme warm weather we had over the weekend. Rink was back open the next day. February 2nd and 3rd Scandia received approximately 8 inches of snow accumulation. I had the crew start work at 1 Oam. The heavy snow began about noon. After preparing the equipment, the crew went out and began to make an effort to keep roads open till about 8pm. They went home to rest and returned at 4am to do a complete clean-up. By that evening, the roads were cleared completely. The next day, we did a clean-up of roads that had drifted and re -sanded gravel roads. We met with on a Friday to get 3 bids on some wiring on the bliss #2 lift stations and also some electrical work at City Hall One employee was on vacation for the week of February 8th, and needed another week for funeral in family. Another employee had school during the week of the 8th During the second week, we got some snow and drifting. One of the crew and myself were out sanding and some plowing. Ordered 100 ton of new salt, when it arrived, we had to get the salt piled into the salt shed. Cleaned sidewalks and the skating rinks are an on -going process. At weeks end, I had the trucks and the shop cleaned up. We have begun to do tree trimming on a regular basis. Each day we try to find some time to get out in the areas especially where we are going to seal coat this year to do most of our trimming and wood chipping. With spring coming on, some of the crew spends the morning filling pot holes within the city. Some small jobs that we had this month included: purchased water softener salt and filled the tanks, outdoor security lights to repair, Worked on one of the doors at the community center, meter reading, pulled an aerator motor from uptown sewer well to be rebuilt. This motor supplies air to the well. Crew member needed to pump down a holding tank so we could gain excess to remove a bad actuator. This opens and shuts a dosing valve. It needed to be replaced. A resident contacted me to pick up a "No Parking "sign that had been tossed into the river at Log House landing. Went to Log House Landing to inspect any damage, there was none. Saturday the 20th of February a car struck an electrical pole near the lighted ball field. We had an emergency locate from Excl. It took several hours but the power to the city was restored. Had a few minor electrical problems to resolve from that, but got back to normal. Thank you Dave Williams, Public Works Director
