5.b Public Works Staff Report Nov Date of Meeting: November 1, 2021 To: Parks and Recreation Committee From: Charles Fischer: Director of Public Works Re: Staff Report Lilleskogen: The park sign pillars have been installed and the sign is in progress of being made. Hay Lake Park: The Tree Trust-Green Futures Program application has been submitted and waiting for a response if the City will be granted the opportunity to plant trees in the park. Ice Rink: Modifications to the Gate opening are complete. The skate park has been removed for cleaning of the concrete surface. Tennis/Pickle Ball Courts: The nets will stay up as long as the weather dictates. Typical removal happens before chances of freezing rain or snow to prevent damage to the nets. Blowing out of the leaves will become more of a challenge on a daily basis as more begin to fall. Staff has been notified to monitor the courts and blow out as needed. Donation Benches: Public Works is working on drafting a document outlining the donation bench protocol for Lilleskogen Park. The final locations of the benches will be staked prior to the installation of the concrete. The pads will be poured in the Spring unless the seasonal weather continues and an opportunity comes to complete this fall. We should discuss what the interest is currently in the community for donation benches and how to promote the opportunity in the park. Wind in the Pines: It has been reported that trees have fallen over the path and an inspection for required removals will take place. Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails: The Friends of Scandia Parks and Trails volunteered their time in a Buckthorn and Amur Maple removal in the Orwell Park location. They had a great turnout and was a successful day. Holiday Decorations: Public Works staff will be sorting through the Holiday decorations in preparation for their installation. Staff will also be setting up the trees for the Hall and supplying birch branches from tree removals. Light Pole Flags: The flags on the light poles will be removed after Veterans Day, weather depending on Nov. 12th or the following week of the 15th. Park Amenity Estimates: An estimate for the replacement of the hockey boards was received for $150,000. This includes standard rink boards, glass on either end, netting on the warming house end, and the appropriate gate openings for players and equipment. From this estimate multiple changes can be made but I wanted to show an upscaled price to understand what we can plan to expect for costs at this scale of project. Estimates for a pavilion at Lilleskogen have indicated a cost between $35,000 and $50,000. This would include the footings, cement pad and structure.
