9.b Fire Chief updates 11-16-21Fire department updates
Safe Halloween
We had a lighter than normal turnout for the safe Halloween event this year (still a good turnout). We
are looking at making some changes next year to make the event more successful. Looking at adding
indoor games for the small kids, and more advertising.
Generator Grant
I contacted the state representative that we joint applied with and was told that the grant is just waiting
on FEMA to sign it and the grant agreement to be signed. Long process due to COVID delays, but will
cover 75% of the generator cost. FEMA $63,901.50 and City $21,300.50
I received notice that the grant was approved 11/09/21. We applied for this grant November of 2019. I
now have to sign paperwork with the state and FEMA. I will also have to work with vendors to get new
quotes and project time lines.
Roof project update
The crew has finished the roof replacement project on the Annex building. They found very little
damage to the insulation under the roof. This means that the project cost will not have any additional
cost for repair.
The fire/PW project should be done by the council meeting. We have been able to have the solar system
removed and re-installed in a very short time frame to help reduce any additional cost to the city. The
roofing crew was able to replace the solar system side first to allow the solar company to start re-
installing panels while the roofing crew finishes the remaining roof. We now also have a roof access
hatch for future use during maintenance and inspection activities.
Firefighter Training
We will be hosting an EMT class at the fire station this fall. Class will be starting November 16th and will
be Tuesdays & Thursdays, so you will be seeing more activity as this class will take 3 months to
complete. We will have 5 of our new members attending the class. 3 from the last recruitment group
and 2 from the year before.
COVID-19
We have had 2 cases of Covid at the fire station in the last 3 months. There was limited effect on our
operations or ability to provide care. The number of cases in the county are on the increase and we will
continue to monitor this and modify our response as needed to keep our crews safe and available to
provide coverage to our residents.
