5.a Dec 2021 Chair reportPRC Chair report – for December 6, 2021
Follow-up with CLFLWSD staff
Refer to the chair report from November 2021.
Nick Bancks learned that the boardwalk from the former Warner Nature Center would remain in place,
in anticipation that at some future time that property will re-open as a new iteration of a nature center
or camp.
Dave Bakke of the Bone Lake Association suggested that, due to availability of several key people, we
wait until the spring meeting of that organization to discuss next steps and possible funding.
Scandia Heritage Alliance
I met with Sue Rodsjo on November 22 to get an update on the SHA plans and discuss the trails
component of that plan.
Her email request was as follows.
I'm wondering if you and I could touch base again on the Arts & Heritage Center plans. Scandia Heritage
Alliance has drafted a proposed plan for a sidewalk along Olinda Trail and crosswalk to G ammelgarden,
which was included in our Redevelopment agreement with the City. Since both the sidewalk and the
wetland trails will require a permit from the county, the city engineer suggested that we also prepare a
schematic plan for the trails to submit everything to the county at once.
The trails that go around and across the wetlands are on community center property (not the portion that
SHA will be leasing) - so technically it's a feature for the Park & Rec Committee. We would like to obtain
PRC feedback on the proposed trails -- and talk about who takes the lead on this aspect of the project.
What do you think of SHA and the PRC working together to seek grants to cover the cost of the trails? I am
pulling together a list of possible grant opportunities.
We also have a tentative plan for the proposed splash pad at the Arts & Heritage Center that the PRC
might be interested in reviewing.
Should you and I meet to discuss and determine the best next steps? It would be good to discuss whether
the PRC prefers to take full ownership of the trail plan and grant seeking, whether it prefers to partner
with SHA, or whether it prefers that SHA lead the effort.
I have added this topic to the December 6 PRC agenda.
Respectfully submitted, Terry Gorham
