7.a.2 Staff Report and Resolution-Skating Park Donation Staff Report Date of Meeting: April 19, 2016 To: City Council From: Judi Negus, Office Assistant Re: Wojtowicz Skate Park Donation Background: As previously discussed, Corey Roberts of Roberts Funeral Service and Scot Taylor of Meister’s Bar and Grill planned to donate a portion of their proceeds from the Scanley Cup adult hockey tournament to the Wojtowicz Skating Park. Roberts provided a check in the amount of $750 and Taylor provided a check in the amount of $241. As with other donations, the Council must formally accept the donations via a resolution. Issue: Should the City accept the donation for the Wojtowicz Skating Park? Proposal: The resolution detailing the donation and committed the funds to be used for improvements at the skating park is included in your packet. Fiscal Impact: This year, $991 was raised from the tournament for the skating park. Options: 1) Approve Resolution 04-19-16-02 2) Amend and then Approve Resolution 04-19-16-02 3) Do not approve Resolution 04-19-16-02 Recommendation: Option 1. CITY OF SCANDIA RESOLUTION NO. 04-19-16-02 ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR LEONARD WOJTOWICZ SKATING PARK WHEREAS, The City of Scandia is generally authorized to accept donations of real and personal property pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 465.03 for the benefit of its citizens, and is specifically authorized to accept gifts and bequests for the benefit of recreational services pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 471.17; and WHEREAS, Roberts Funeral Service has donated $750 and Meister’s Bar and Grill has donated $241 for the Leonard Wojtowicz Skating Park; and WHEREAS, All donations have been contributed to assist the City with improvements to the Leonard Wojtowicz Skating Park, as allowed by law; and WHEREAS, The City Council finds that it is appropriate to accept the donation offered. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCANDIA, WASHINGTON COUNTY, MINNESOTA, that it should and hereby does accept the donation of $750 from Roberts Funeral Service and $241 from Meister’s Bar and Grill; and FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council recognizes and extends its thanks to Corey Roberts of Roberts Funeral Service and Scot Taylor of Meister’s Bar and Grill on behalf of all of the citizens of Scandia, for their generous donation to our community; and FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council commits the funds to be used for improvements at the Leonard Wojtowicz Skating Park.
