10.f Memo - Snowflake Decorations - Public Works
Memo
Date of Meeting: 1/18/2021
For: Honorable Mayor and Council
From: Charles Fischer – Director of Public Works
Subject: Street Light Snowflake Decorations
In December of 2021 seven snowflake decorations were stolen from the City street light poles
on Oakhill Road. Public Works is prepared to purchase replacement snowflakes and three
additional snowflakes in the event we experience more missing or have a small quantity on
hand to replace failed units. A discussion of the snowflakes between the Mayor and Public
Works led to an idea to add more snowflake decorations to the light poles in the Community
Center parking lot.
In the conversation, between the Mayor and Public Works, a suggestion was made the City
should install two snowflakes per pole as each pole serves two separate rows of parking stalls.
One snowflake would be adequate, but for appearance purposes Public Works feels that one on
either side of the pole would be better suited.
To add the snowflakes, 8 total snowflakes will need to be ordered along with Public Works
building brackets to custom fit the light poles. Each snowflake is currently priced at $382.34
with an additional shipping and a surcharge costs for fluctuating material prices. The brackets
made by public works are estimated to cost $50 each. Overall, the cost per snowflake is
estimated to be $500 each, totaling an estimated $4,000 to install the additional snowflakes.
Before placing the order for the replacement of the stolen snowflakes, Public Works would like
to give the Mayor and Council an opportunity to discuss the addition of snowflake decorations
to the City Hall parking lot. Upon completion of this discussion Public Works will order the
appropriate number of snowflake decorations and if necessary, any materials required for
installation.
