Re: Playground Funding Discussion Information re Lions Club
Staff reached out to Ann Rinkenberger regarding possible funding assistance from the Lions Club in the
PRC for financial support in the playground equipment replacement project.
For support requests from the Scandia Marine Lions Club:
• http://www.scandiamarinelions.org/community-giving/ to download the contributions
request
• Requests go to the Contributions Review Committee
• Requests approved by the Contributions Review Committee are submitted to the Board
of Directors
• Requests approved by the Board of Directors goes to the membership
• Requests approved by the membership are funded
Ann stated that if the request is out of the scope of the club or the request is too large for the
club, then it is passed along to the Lions' Foundation. She recommends contacting the
Foundation President, Glen Mills, directly: http://www.scandiamarinelions.org/how-to-request-
funds/. There is only one potential category that the project could fall under with the
foundation: unrestricted funds. That being said, it would have to further be a good match with
one (or more) of the Lions' global causes.
Ann highly recommends that the following questions be included in the submitted request:
• How does the project support one of the Lions' global causes (diabetes, environment,
hunger, pediatric cancer, or vision)?
• How does the playground differ or is unique from other local playgrounds? What sets
this one apart from others in the area? For example, are there elements to it that would
make is accessible to youth, teens, or adults who have vision issues or who are blind?
Are there components for teens or adults to exercise which could help in the prevention
of Diabetes? Does it reach a new segment of the community that isn't already served by
the existing playgrounds?
• How is the playground ADA accessible? If not all of it is ADA accessible, what percentage
can be accessed by those with physical disabilities?
• How many children, teens, and adults are estimated to use the equipment annually?
• What is cost of the project and what percentage is the Lions being asked to suppor t?
How much has been raised already for the playground project?
• When will the new playground be installed?
• Are there other components that will be added in the future?
